Not sure why one reviewer said the light is yellow because my light is a nice bright white. You can barely hear it. The only problem is that now I wish I bought a bigger tank. Just the right size for my 5 year old. I highly recommend this tank as long as you stick with your original plan of keeping it simple.
I have a nice blue Betta in there and he seems to love it. It's not too big and not too small either, for a child. Nice bright light bulb is one of those energy saving bulbs. The filter is extremely quiet.
If you become interested yourself, you will be looking for a larger, rectangular tank. The water has stayed clear so far but it has only been a week. This is a really good tank. Open, feed, and then close the door.
I like the small door perfectly located so you can easily feed the fish. Keep in mind that this tank is perfect for a child, but now that I have this tank, I'm getting all interested in fish.
I have tryed walmart, 3 or 4 pet shops, and I cant even find it on the internet. I have had 6 small tropical fish in it, and recently 4 goldfish. This is a very nice starter tank. It would be great if someone would write back and tell me where to get the filter. Everything is good about this tank besides I cannot find any place that you can buy the Aqua-tech #5 Replacement filter. thanks.
And the fish are always caught in the swirl of water going around. This is a small tank. No matter what else can be said, bigger might be better. If I had to do it over, I'd have gotten a bigger tank that's retangular. If you're looking at this, consider the bigger one. Regular tanks are still cool.
The fact that it is made of acrylic makes me worry less about leaks, especially since I have it on my desk at work.For the busy person, this tank is very easy to set up and maintain. The Eclipse Hex aquarium is my first aquarium and I bought it because I wanted a low maintenance tank. My first fish is a Beta and he loves it too. I adore the hex design - very contemporary and a space saver. And, it looks fantastic now that I've decorated it.If I were a fish living in a regular aquarium, I'd be jealous.By the way, I ordered this from Pet Food Direct on Amazon and it shipped without any problems.
The light heats up the water quite a bit, it got too warm for my goldfish.but you can replace the bulb with a flourescent which won't throw out so much heat.Has the newest features in the filter system, a "bio wheel" which helps break down toxins in the water. I was very impressed since this is the first tank I've had in many years.I remember the old NOISY pumps. at walmart.It does what it says, runs silently. Got this for $30 (yes thirty). Do be careful with the power cord routing, it can get scraped/frayed when you are replacing the top. Very nicely designed, filter and light fit and finish is great. Might be best on a desk or high up where you can see it from 3 or four sides, rather than just the front, because of the shape.
